Yoga for Healthy Aging
at Serenity Yoga Studio, South Hadley, MA
As we age, our body, mind, spirit and life change. With these changes come concern about our healthspan—how long can we remain healthy? If we are experienced yogis, we know that yoga has many benefits. But should our yoga practice change as we age? As we feel tighter muscles, new imbalances, old injuries and develop different priorities, should our practice be gentler, more active or different from what we’ve been doing? How?
In this 8-week series you’ll:
- learn about the powerful connections between yoga and healthy aging as you practice and share the experience with other older yogis
- focus on actions, poses, sequences and variations that help you to be strong, flexible, balanced, agile and calm
- refine and deepen your yoga practice in ways that safely support, engage and challenge you
- integrate yoga practices more deeply and confidently into your life
- enjoy reading and home practice opportunities
There are no age limits to the benefits of yoga, which often deepen and expand as we get older. Yoga is one of the best ways to extend our healthspan.
If you are 50 or older and already have yoga experience, this class is for you. And, if you have already taken this class, you may want to try it again. It changes each time, and you can go deeper.

Create Gratitude with Balance
In the midst of the pandemic that has changed our lives so fundamentally, we face a Thanksgiving unlike any other—for many of us, without family and friends sharing a delicious harvest meal at the same table. What do we do?
We could spend the holiday in sadness, or we could push the sadness away and acknowledge only what has been good for us during this pandemic. Another option? Embrace both the sadness and the light. Create balance there, with gratitude. Enjoy the equanimity.
In this workshop, we reflect on balance and gratitude, learn how a yoga practice promotes balance, practice balance and the gratitude that it can yield. And we look gratefully toward the holiday. This workshop includes meditation, pranayama, and asana practice. All are welcome.

Location: Serenity Yoga, virtual studio

The changes that become visible to us as the days lengthen and the temperatures warm remind us that, in our own lives, change is fundamental. In this workshop, through meditation, asana and journaling, we explore and interweave three yogic practices that help us move through all kinds of change–tapas, ishvarapranidhana, svadhyaya.

TRANSITION AND TRANSFORMATION
The changes that become visible as the days lengthen remind us that, in our own lives, change is fundamental. Some changes are ‘natural,’ part of our being alive and moving through the cycle of life. And transitions open the door to transformation.

March 9, 2013: Transition and Transformation
A WORKSHOP OF ASANA AND MEDITATION
The changes that become visible to us as the days lengthen and the temperatures warm remind us that, in our own lives, change is fundamental. Some changes are ‘natural,’ part of our being alive and moving through the cycle of life. Others are the result of our own choices or of things that happen over which we have little or no control.
Yoga supports us as we make our way through transitions of any kind. It also invites transformation, as we gain deeper self-knowledge. Less than two weeks before the vernal equinox, this workshop will help you deepen your perspectives on your own transitions, explore your power for transformation and bring fresh awareness to the astonishing changes that occur each spring .
The workshop is on Saturday, March 9, 10 am to 12:30 pm in my home studio. There will be healthful snacks and friendly conversation afterward for those who can stay. The workshop is $35 early (check must be received by 2/28), and $40 after that. Please contact me to reserve a space, and send a check. Spaces are limited. Sign up now!
January 19, 2013: Entering the New Year with Clarity and Grace
On January 19, an amazing group of yogis gathered at my home studio for this workshop. Through meditation, asana, writing, small group conversation and a practice known as ‘recapitulation,’ in which we summarize the positive and negative highlights of the past year on paper and then burn the paper, we considered and clarified our intentions for the coming year. It was fabulous!
